One month after releasing his sixth solo album "Ageism”, Sweeney swiftly returns with a compilation of tracks that trace the various sonic song spaces of 2022-2023 — songs that attempted to sing out but got lost in a whisper in a world that continues to shout.

“Failures & False Starts”, as the title might suggest, is a resigned but romantic gesture sent from an artist to their listener. From the alt-country waltz of 'Queerness Is A Virtue' to the goth-electronica of 'Try To Be Truly Alone' through to the fast paced guitar pop of 'Even In My Dreams I'm Alone' this collection of sibling songs rides a wave of inspiration that led to the "Ageism" album in 2024.

Each of the songs on this compilation are curated in a listening sequence that tells a story of queer solo life that at once celebrates the art of being alone as well as asking questions of solitude itself.

All of this is wrapped in the gorgeous artwork of Madrid's Casio van Doesburg, bringing a fresh colour palette to the previously monochrome world of Sweeney's prior releases. Changes are happening. x
